Whoever you are and wherever you are, Belbin works for you.

Belbin was founded as a company in 1987, and we've been growing throughout the UK and worldwide ever since. Based in Cambridge, UK, we're a small team with a broad global reach.

Our mission is to bring the language of Belbin Team Roles to individuals, teams and organisations worldwide. We want to help people discover their strengths, and work more effectively together to build high-performing teams.

Belbin reports, training and exercises are all based on the Team Role theory developed by Dr Meredith Belbin in the 1970s. Studied on management courses around the world, and used every day in tens of thousands of organisations, Belbin Team Roles have become the gold-standard method for identifying behavioural contributions in the workplace.

Our founders

Belbin was founded by Dr Meredith Belbin, his wife, Eunice, and their son, Nigel. David Bainbridge joined the company as a partner shortly afterwards. Meredith and Nigel remain partners of the business today and were joined by Managing Partner, Jo Keeler, in 2017.

Our values

We believe that everyone can make a valuable contribution at work, so long as they are able to identify and use their strengths in a team setting. We help teams and organisations globally to make the most of their talent, through the Belbin reports, teambuilding activities, bespoke workshops, recruitment and much more.

How it all began

Following his groundbreaking research into team effectiveness in the 1970s, Dr Meredith Belbin began introducing Team Role theory in live team settings all over the UK. He was invited to produce detailed Team Role reports for the likes of Cadbury Schweppes and ICI to aid their recruitment processes. Soon, demand so far outstripped supply that Meredith and Nigel Belbin investigated how to distil Meredith's advice and insights into automated reports.

The first version of the Belbin software, Interplace was released in 1987, so called because it was designed to assist with interview and placement. This year, we are celebrating the launch of the 8th version of our reports, now delivered via our online platform.
